Clinical paper summary: Cytological changes in the oral mucosa after use of a mouth rinse with alcohol: A prospective double-blind control study
This study aimed to detect cytological changes in the oral mucosa after using an alcohol-containing mouth rinse (LISTERINE®).
A prospective double-blind, controlled study was performed for 6 months with two groups of patients.1

Three cytological samples were obtained from the oral mucosa of each patient. The presence of cytological atypia, binucleation and karyorrhesis, and type of cells were studied. Additionally, fluorescent in situ hybridisation (FISH) was carried out for 15 samples in each group for evaluation of the micronucleus.1
